.: tramping the Cass/Lagoon track :.

04.08.2007
This weekend i went on a trip with Volker and some others quite spontaneously.
I was first hestiating since i wasn't fully recovered from my flu i got off ivor at snowcraft, but hell, i had to go out there!

The track is just next to the Broken River Skifield, only on the other sides of the chain of mountains. so it came to be that we went through a valley that i was able to see from above at snowcraft from Mt. Hamilton!

special about this trip was the snow! the weatherforecast was horrible, and Volker was tempted to call off the trip. but we went and you can see it at the pictures: it was worth it! short after midday it started to snow heavily at about 800m.. it kept on snowing the whole evening, and as we arrived at the hut there was already heaps of snow!

we didn't even have to light on the fire, anna & matt already have been at the hut; they cancelled their avalanche peak trip and just went on ours, starting from the other entry point.

the next morning we had a breathtaking outlook from the hamilton hut: the whole valley had transformend into winter wonderland..
unfortunately the way out via Cass saddle is usually not too safe after big dumps due to avalanches coming down! we didn't quite feel better when we saw a big warning sign on the way..
But no worries: avalanches need a base to slip on, and this was the first dump after a long time, and wind carried most of the snow away to other spots, so that it wasn't too dangerous in the end..
